1805
According to the Royal Society of Medicine website, the Medical and Chirurgical Society of London was founded in 1805 by several people who had left the Medical Society of London (founded 1773) because of the high-handed tactics of Dr. James Sims (then President of the latter Society). In 1834 it received a Royal charter and became the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London.

According to the Royal Society of Medicine website, in 1907, the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London merged with several other specialist societies to form the Royal Society of Medicine.

We find an enumeration of the various constituent specialist societies (with their founding dates and merger dates) at the Royal Society of Medicine website (by going to the Summary area of the Archives in the Library area):

  1. Pathological Society of London (1846-1907),
  2. London Epidemiological Society (1850-1907),
  3. Odontological Society of Great Britain (1856-1907),
  4. Obstetrical Society of London (1858-1907),
  5. Clinical Society of London (1867-1907),
  6. Dermatological Society of London (1882-1907),
  7. British Gynaecological Society (1884-1907),
  8. Neurological Society of London (1886-1907),
  9. British Laryngological, Rhinological and Otological Association (1888-1907),
  10. Laryngological Society of London (1893-1907)
  11. Society of Anaesthetists (1893-1908),
  12. Dermatological Society of Great Britain and Ireland (1894-1907)
  13. British Balneological and Climatology Society (1895-1909),
  14. Society for the Study of Diseases in Children (1900-1908),
  15. British Electrotherapy Society (1901-1907), and
  16. Therapeutical Society (1902-1907).
It will be noticed that not all the constituent societies joined the merger in 1907; a few others joined the merger in 1908 and 1909.
