The Dictionary of National Biography (DNB) is a monumental
compilation of biographical entries for people important in the history of
the British Isles.
It was first published 1885-1901, in 66 volumes.

Two editions have been used:
- an unaltered reprint (1937-1938) of the 1921-1922
edition, which ran to 22 volumes, and
- an electronic version entitled
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography available to
subscribers, and persons affiliated with subscribing institutions.
