According to
a posting to lis-libhist by Michael Honeybone on 21 Sep 1998,
"This society was a very successful learned society until
1748 or so when internal arguments led to its gradual fading so that
by 1760 it had become that commonplace organisation of 18th century
society, a book club for the local professional gentry and clergy."
According to
a posting to lis-libhist by Michael Honeybone on 29 Sep 1998,
the Society was dissolved in the 1890s.
Although the Society does not appear to have published any journals,
they maintained minutes until 1809 according to p.59 of
Winter, H.J.J.
Scientific notes from the early minutes of the Peterborough Society

And the Society periodically published (at least in 1783, 1843 and 1883) a
Catalogue of Books belonging to
the Society formed at Peterborough in the Year 1730 for the Promotion
of Friendship and Literature, according to
