1743	According to Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB), Bd.49, p.507, in an article on Gralath, Daniel G. (the Elder, 1708-1767), in 1742 Daniel Gralath (1708-1767) of Danzig and his father-in-law Jakob Theodor Klein founded the Naturforschende Gesellschaft, which had its first session on 1743, January 2. Further information is found in a history page on the Society entitled: Geschichte der Danziger Naturforschenden Gesellschaft (authored by Peter Letkemann: Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz, Berlin). That history indicates that the work of the Society ended in 1945 with the destruction of Danzig. A history of the first century and a half of the Society's existence is found in the Harvard Univ. cat.: Geschichte der Naturforschenden Gesellschaft in Danzig, 1743-1892 / von E. Schumann, published in Danzig by the Society in 1893 (not seen).
