According to p.156 of Aymonin (1974), this Society was founded in 1788, and met in both 1788 and 1789, but ceased its activity with the onset of the French Revolution. After attempts to revive it from 1793 to 1797, it was finally resurrected in 1820 (Aymonin (1974), pp.156-157), but ceased publishing in 1828, and went into decline, although it was heard from as late as 1833 (Aymonin (1974), pp.159),

A society of the same name was founded in 1866 by Baillon, but apparently without making reference to this earlier society (Aymonin (1974), pp.155-156).
