Grati, pp.88-89 indicates that in 1791 the Società Economica Chiavari was founded as a direct affiliate of the Società Patria di Arti e Manifatture (later to become the Istituto Nazionale Ligure. There is a record in the SBN Italian Union cat. for a publication with the following title: Rapporto letto il 3 novembre 1806 alla Società economica di Chiavari dal socio Gio. Ant. Mongiardini sulla coltura delle spiaggie arenili, e la imbiancatura delle tele. This establishes the use of the name Società Economica di Chiavari as early as 1806.
