Association was preceded by the Schweizerische Künstlervereinigung,
which had been founded in 1806.
In 1839, the Association took on its present-day form as the
Schweizerische Kunstverein (SKV).
It is a bit difficult to ascertain the dates when the various names for the
association came into effect.

électoral à Genève du 8 août au 1er septembre 1878.
This establishes the use of the French name as early as 1878.

record for Catalog der Turnus-Ausstellung des Schweizerischen
Kunstvereins in der Kunsthalle Basel (Basel : [s.n.], 1886 ).
This establishes the use of the German name as early as 1886.
