The Society was suspended on January 27, 1864, and restored on July 29, 1864 under the name Српско Учено Друштво (Serbian Learned Society). On May 13, 1886 the Serbian Learned Society was suspended because of its dispute with the Minister of Education. The Law on the founding of the Српска Краљевска Академија (Serbian Royal Academy) was passed on November 1, 1886; all properties of the Society were transferred to the Academy. The Society was allowed to reopen on June 25, 1887, but was in difficulty and began a lawsuit against the Academy; this was resolved in 1892, when the Society merged with the Academy.
