1835	This date is supported by its website (). We have found conflicting information concerning the name of the Society in its early years. The entry in RSLC, v.1, p.xlvi, for the first journal of the Society gives the title as Mémoires de la Société [Royale] des Sciences, de l'Agriculture, et des Arts à Liège for the run 1843-1863. The entries in RSLC, v.9, p.xxi and v.13, p.liv both give the title as Mémoires de la Société Royale des Sciences de Liège for the runs 1874-1883 and 1885-1900. This would seem to suggest that (1) in 1843 the name of the Society was Société des Sciences, de l'Agriculture, et des Arts à Liège, (2) by 1863 it had become Société Royale des Sciences, de l'Agriculture, et des Arts à Liège, and (3) by 1874 it had become Société Royale des Sciences de Liège. Note, however, that Phil. Trans., Vol. 144 (1854) p.3 gives the title for Tom. I. to VIII. 1843-53 as Mémoires de la Société Royale des Sciences Liège; and , Vol. 145 (1855) p.3 gives the title for Tome IX (1854) as Mémoires de la Société Royale des Sciences. 8vo. Liège. What possible explanation might there be for the apparent contradiction between the information given in the RSLC and the Phil. Trans.? One possibility is that the information in the RSLC, v.1, p.xlvi is simply a bibliographical error. Another possibility is that the names given in RSLC, v.1, p.xlvi were alternative names to Société Royale des Sciences de Liège in that early time period. Without being able to examine the actual volumes of the early years of the Mémoires, it is difficult to say which is the case.
