1845	According to its website (), on 1845, August 15, the society was founded as the Vereeniging voor de Nederlandsche Flora, and would later be called the Koninklijke Nederlandse Botanische Vereniging. We have not found a source that indicates directly when this change occurred. Catalogue records in the Leiden Univ. cat. and the Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB) for Nederlands kruidkundig archief ignore the existence of this early corporate name. The Leiden Univ. cat. has a record for the following journal article: Tweede bijdrage tot de Algologische Flora van Nederland by R.B. van den Bosch in Nederlandsch kruidkundig archief. Serie 1, 1851-01, Vol.2 (1), p.202-227. The catalogue record, as part of its description, quotes the following passage: “De werkzaamheden, die mijne betrekking tot de Vereeniging voor de Nederlandsche Flora mij oplegt, verbieden mij, om mijne onderzoekingen betrekkelijk de Flora van Zeeland langer afzonderlijk voort te zetten... ” This suggests that the society had the name Vereeniging voor de Nederlandsche Flora as late as 1851. A catalogue record for Nederlandsch kruidkundig archief indicates that the society received the royal designation with v.56 (which would have been around 1947 to 1949) and became the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Botanische Vereeniging - still in the old orthography. NOTE: The new orthography was made official on 31 October 1953 in “het Groene Boekje” according to the Wikipedia article at History of Dutch orthography. Hence, around this date, the name for the society would have changed from Koninklijke Nederlandsche Botanische Vereeniging to Koninklijke Nederlandse Botanische Vereniging

That record also indicates that from volume 56 onward, the corporate body had the name Koninklijke Nederlandsche Botanische Vereeniging; that is, the body received the royal designation at that point. That record also indicates that in 1904, this title was partly continued by Recueil des travaux botaniques néerlandais (1904 - 1950) - meaning that this French-language title split off from the Dutch journal for a number of years. A record in the Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB) indicates that the spelling of the title was in the beginning Nederlandsch kruidkundig archief. The record also indicates that the name of the sponsoring corporate body was Nederlandsche Botanische Vereenigung until vol.53, 1943.
