This article examines the history of the Naturforschende Gesellschaft zu Jena (founded 1793, and ceased 1850). It also mentions briefly the Medizinisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft zu Jena, which was founded in 1853; it indicates that the latter society can in retrospect be considered the continuation of the Naturforschende Gesellschaft zu Jena.
