1691	According to its website (), the Academy was founded on 1691, March 17 by Pirro Maria Gabbrielli and some students to offer an experimental interpretation of the physical world. They coined the term Fisiocritici to describe themselves, taking it from the Greek words physis (nature) and criticos (judges). But, according to Maylender (1926-1930), v.3, p.20, this Academy was founded in Siena in 1690 by Pirro Maria Gabrielli. Maylender (1926-1930), v.3, pp.20-22 transcribes the initial statement of regulations, dated 1690, March 20, in which the Academy is referred to as the Accademia Fisicomedica. Yet throughout his historical essay, Maylender (1926-1930), v.3, pp.20-26, consistently refers to the members of the Academy as the Fisiocritici. Perhaps the formal founding of the Academy did not occur until 1691, March 17, by which time the name had been changed to include the term Fisiocritici. Maylender (1926-1930), v.3, p.24 indicates that from 1700 a decline in activity set in, which changed in 1759, when an enlightened official, Pompeo Neri, arrived in Tuscany, and obtained financial backing from the government for the Academy. Shortly thereafter the Academy began publishing its Atti. Maylender (1926-1930), v.3, p.25 indicates that the political events of 1848 had such an effect on the activities of the Academy that from then until 1862 there was no sign of meetings. Maylender (1926-1930), v.3, p.25 notes that in 1887 the Società dei Cultori delle Scienze Mediche (founded shortly before) merged with the Academy and this invigorated the Academy. Finally, Maylender (1926-1930), v.3, p.26 refers to a 1705 publication referring in its title to the Academy as the Accademia Fisiocritici.
